You may never look at a turkey sandwich the same way after seeing how these gentle birds are killed. New hidden-camera video footage obtained by Mercy For Animals reveals frightened birds painfully shocked with electricity, cut open while still alive and conscious, and scalded to death in vats of hot water. As one slaughterhouse worker describes it, “Their eyes pop out of their head, and they all swell up and shit. It looks like a fuckin’ horror movie.” The sickening undercover video was taken at a Lilydale turkey slaughterhouse in British Columbia. Lilydale is one of the largest poultry producers in Canada. What’s even more disturbing is that all of these horrors are considered business as usual for poultry slaughterhouses nationwide. We can’t allow this torture to continue.

MFA is calling on Lilydale’s parent company, Sofina Foods, to end the worst forms of animal abuse in its supply chain, including swiftly replacing live-shackle slaughter with less cruel systems that eliminate the horrific suffering caused by shackling, shocking, cutting open, and scalding conscious animals. After we exposed disgusting animal abuse at Perdue Farms—one of the largest poultry producers in the U.S.—the company agreed to a series of important animal welfare improvements, including switching to less cruel slaughter systems. The new policy will reduce the suffering of nearly 680 million animals each year. There is no reason Sofina Foods can’t adopt a similar policy of its own. Please take a moment to sign our petition telling Sofina Foods to stop torturing turkeys to death. Then please share the hidden-camera video with friends and encourage them to take action too.And remember, the best way to ensure you are not supporting the needless suffering of turkeys and other animals is to choose delicious meat-free alternatives.
