Digital Exclusives:
Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that introduces the MCU’s first stand-alone, female-franchise title character—Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. When we first meet Danvers, she already possesses her superhero powers, having left her earthly life behind and become a member of an intergalactic elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by their enigmatic commander, Yon-Rogg. But after Danvers has trained and worked with the Starforce team, and become a valued member, she finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. While on Earth she quickly lands on the radar of Nick Fury, and they must work together against a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls—the notorious Marvel bad guys made even more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities—and their leader, Talos, who is spearheading a Skrull invasion of Earth.
Based on the beloved Marvel comic-book series, first published in 1967, “Captain Marvel” stars Academy Award® winner Brie Larson (“Room,” “Kong: Skull Island”) as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson (Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “The Hateful Eight”) as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Mississippi Grind”) as Talos, with Annette Bening (“American Beauty,” “20th Century Women”) as Supreme Intelligence, with Clark Gregg (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) as Agent Coulson and Jude Law (“Sherlock Holmes,” “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”) as Yon-Rogg.
The film also includes a talented supporting cast that features Djimon Hounsou(“Blood Diamond,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”) as Korath, Lee Pace (“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”) as Ronan, Lashana Lynch (“Bulletproof,” “Brotherhood”) as Maria Rambeau, Gemma Chan (“Crazy Rich Asians,” “Humans”) as Minn-Erva, Rune Temte (“Eddie the Eagle,” “The Last Kingdom”) as Bron-Char, Algenis Perez Soto (“Sugar,” “Isolated Victim”) as Att-Lass, Mckenna Grace (“Gifted,” “I, Tonya”) as Young Carol Danvers and Akira Akbar (“Grey’s Anatomy”) as Monica Rambeau.
Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck (“Half Nelson,” “Sugar,” “Mississippi Grind”). Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Patricia Whitcher and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman & Meg LeFauve and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck & Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and the screenplay is by Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck & Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
Directors Boden and Fleck’s creative team also includes director of photography Ben Davis (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange”), production designer Andy Nicholson (“Gravity,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”), costume designer Sanja Hays (“The Fate of the Furious,” “Star Trek Beyond”), editors Elliot Graham (“Steve Jobs,” “Molly’s Game”) and Debbie Berman (Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther,” “Spider-Man: Homecoming”), visual effects supervisor Christopher Townsend (Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”), special effects supervisor Dan Sudick (Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Black Panther”) and composer Pinar Toprak (“The Angel,” “The Challenger”).

Disabled War Veteran Repays Service Dog
Organization, by Inventing New Chew-Toy andDonating All ProfitsBig Dog’s Powerful Bite Helps Re-Invent the Rubber Ball
Two remarkable stories of determination and persistence come from the
household of disabled war veteran James Hayes, who has a service dog, an
85 LB German-Shepherd named Barrett.
Barrett was given to James by Dogs4Warriors, an organization that helps
veterans cope with Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder, both of which James suffers from, after 3 combat tours in Iraq
and Afghanistan.
James and Barrett quickly developed a close bond, but there was a
potentially dangerous problem – Barrett routinely tore apart the toughest
of chew toys, including those dubbed “indestructible”. So James set his
sights on finding a stronger, safer product for his new best friend.“Veterans Twice as Likely to Start Their Own Company”
James refused to give up in his quest for a toy that even a determined dog
like Barrett could enjoy, but not destroy.
Unable to find any suitable product, James proved U.S. Sen. Tammy
Duckworth D-Ill. correct, when she explained why veterans are twice as
likely to start or lead their own companies as civilians:
“Those who’ve worn the uniform have a kind of courage instilled in them”
said the senator, herself a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. “The
type of resilience and determination that can turn a long-shot idea into a
profit-making business.”James had never heard of Sen. Duckworth, but proving her right, he had
already contacted a variety of manufacturers. James now has a patent
pending on the unique manufacturing process he developed to produce a
completely solid indestructible rubber ball
His quest ended when he found Ethical Products in Bloomfield, NJ. They
were the first company willing and able to help produce James’s re-
designed ball, and to also do something quite profound with their profits…
Ethical Products Inc Donating All Profits to Dogs4Warriors
Deeply impressed by the service, sacrifice and determination of both James
and Barrett, the company made a remarkable move of their own, offering to
donate not just a percentage, but all their profits on the sale of The
Barrett Ball to the Dogs4Warriors organization that matched James with his
beloved dog, Barrett.
To Learn More or Purchase a Barrett Ball
Named after James’s beloved dog, the Barrett Ball will be available in
small, medium and large sizes, priced from $6.99 to $29.99 and comes with
a 100% lifetime guarantee.
For more information download our Press Kit. Pre-order will be available
on www.thebarrettball.com, though the new Barrett Ball will be officially
launched at the Global Pet Expo on March 20-22 in Orlando. The Barrett

MUTUAL RESCUE
How Adopting a Homeless Animal Can Save You, Too
by Carol Novello with Ginny Graves
“An impressive and inspiring work guaranteed to spur a visit to a rescue web site or trip to the local Humane Society.”
-- Publishers Weekly, starred review
MUTUAL RESCUE is the first book to profile the transformational impact that pets have on humans by exploring the emotional, physical, and spiritual gifts rescued animals provide. Compelling research is woven throughout the four sections of the book, Heart, Body, Mind and Connection, and every chapter takes a deep dive into the animal adoption journey deepening the understanding for every human who has ever felt enriched, soothed or restored by an animal and wanted to know why.
Our nation is plagued by illnesses; sixteen million adults suffer from depression, twenty-nine million have diabetes, eight million in any given year have PTSD, and nearly forty percent are obese. It has been established that rescue pets can help. Sixty percent of doctors said they prescribe pet adoption and a staggering ninety-seven percent believe that pet ownership provides health benefits. For people in chronic emotional, physical, or spiritual pain, adopting an animal can transform, and even save, their lives.
MUTUAL RESCUE answers the question of “Who Saves Who” and highlights the research that confirms for our heads what our hearts already know.
Carol Novellobegan rescuing animals at five years of age and hasn't stopped. With a Harvard MBA, she was a senior executive working in high tech, most recently at Intuit, Inc. Today, she is the president of Humane Society Silicon Valley, where she launched Mutual Rescue, a digital global campaign of short films designed to showcase the therapeutic benefits of animal companionship and encourage adoptions. Through her work at Humane Society Silicon Valley, she has been awarded the Maddie's Fund "Maddie Hero Award" for innovation and leadership in the sector and has been recognized as an honoree at the Fifty Years of Women at Harvard Business School celebration in Northern California. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area where she enjoys spending time with her own rescue companions, Tess, a German shepherd, and her tuxedo cats, Bode and Herbie.
Praise for Carol Novello and Mutual Rescue:
“Through authentic accounts, scientific evidence, and personal narrative, Carol Novello illustrates how when we rescue a homeless animal, we ourselves are so often rescued right back!
This book is destined to save lives."
─Marty Becker, DVM and Jack Canfield,
#1 NY Times bestselling co-authors of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul
“I love Mutual Rescue’s films, so when I heard about this new book, I raced to read it. The stories about rescued pets rescuing people were like rays of bright sunshine on a stormy afternoon.
Truly an awe-inspiring book!”
─Marci Shimoff,
#1 NY Times Bestselling Author of Happy for No Reason and Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul
"Mutual Rescue juxtaposes authentic stories and scientific thought about the animal-human bond.
It touches hearts, opens minds, and inspires compassion—a life-changing book."
─Brian Hare,
Founder of Duke Canine Cognition Center and New York Times Bestseller Author of The Genius of Dogs
"Packed with heartrending stories of struggling people who have adopted homeless animals, this fascinating book reveals the many unrecognized ways dogs and cats can ground us, provide a sense of purpose and give us the strength to move forward.
Part science, part story, Mutual Rescue is all heart.
It made me cry and filled me with hope for our planet and every person on it."
─Mallika Chopra,
author of Living with Intent: My Somewhat Messy Journey to Purpose, Peace and Joy
“Adopting a pet can greatly benefit the lives of people who are emotionally hurting.

Author of Animals in Translation and Animals Make Us Human
Companion dogs. They are the best — nonjudgmental, good listeners after a tough day at the office, good motivators to get us humans off the couch and outdoors. There are so many benefits to having these canine companions in our lives.
But do we let them roll in stinky stuff? Nope. Do we get embarrassed when they sniff crotches or hump our human friends’ legs? Yep. Yet this is completely acceptable behavior in the dog world. In the human world, not so much.
Dogs are amazingly adaptive and resilient and find ways to survive even in environments that aren’t particularly dog friendly. Most people want their dogs to thrive (versus being labeled with behavioral problems) and the best way to do that is to learn as much as possible about who dogs really are and what they need from us, say Marc Bekoff and Jessica Pierce in the enclosed advance copy of, Unleashing Your Dog: A Field Guide to Giving Your Canine Companion the Best Life Possible (March 5, 2019).
As the demand for dog trainers and veterinary behaviorists attests, dogs are not naturally adapted to living with and among modern humans. They give up a lot of freedom and instinctual pleasure, as well as their innate strategies for coping with stress and anxiety, in exchange for the comfort and care they get from humans.
Unleashing Your Dog builds on the latest research in canine science and provides many practical ways that allow dogs to exercise their senses, in addition to exercising their brains and their muscles. Bekoff and Pierce show that it is possible to let dogs be dogs without wreaking havoc on our own lives. They begin by illuminating the true nature of dogs and helping us “walk in their paws.” They reveal what smell, taste, touch, sight, and hearing mean to dogs and then guide readers through everyday ways of enhancing a dog’s freedom in safe, mutually happy ways. The rewards, they show, are great — for dog and human alike.
Continuing to build on ways to “let your dog be a dog,” with as much patience and good will as possible, Bekoff and Pierce demonstrate how to give companion dogs the best life possible and provide a win-win for all. They are prepared to discuss with your audience:
- Their top three suggestions for easy ways for people to “unleash their dog”?
- Explaining that in addition to exercising muscles, joints, tendons, and bones, dogs need to exercise their senses — and why this is so important
- The importance of busting the myth that dogs are “just furry people.”
- Why they think that “citizen science” is so important for learning about dog behavior.
- The importance of dog training — it goes both ways to make it a true win-win. (continued)

She has a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and an M.T.S. from Harvard University and now lives in Colorado. More information at www.JessicaPierce.net
It’s important for people who live with dogs to become fluent in “Dog” so they’ll know how to let their canine companions express their doginess and be dogs. It is my sincere hope you will consider letting your readers know about Unleashing Your Dog via a review or mention in your publication. Both authors are also available for interview, and I would be happy to make those arrangements. You can reach me at 415-884-2100 x15 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
