Halloween Ends

Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, Miramax, Rough House Pictures and Trancas International Films present an R-Rated, 111-minutes, Horror, Thriller, directed by David Gordon Green based on characters by John Carpenter, Debra Hill and Paul Brad Logan with a theater release of October 14, 2022.

It’s four years later in Haddonfield, Illinois and no one has seen hide nor hair of Michael Myers. As we all know Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) lost her daughter in the last fight with Michael Myers but at this time she is living freely with her grand-daughter Allyson (Andi Matichak). Laurie gave up hiding, bought a beautiful new home but still the neighbors don’t get along with her because they believe last time, she taunted Michael and that is what made him kill again.

Meanwhile a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) who was babysitting for a wealthy family, the Allen’s, of course during the Halloween season experienced his own nightmare. After a game of unannounced hide and seek the young boy is accidently killed and the town is no longer friendly to Corey. All except Laurie who eventually introduces him to Allyson at which time they start dating. After a brief encounter with Michael the evil eventually consumes Corey. As time goes by Michael Myers once again shows his face and it is Laurie that he is once again out to kill along with a lot of collateral damage.

In the final moments, the fight is on between Laurie and Michael and only one survives. As Laurie wrote in her memoir evil never dies, it just changes shape.

I really enjoyed this story which is much better than the last one but not as good as the first of three. The director is right on pace the entire time and the writing is very well composed having a very interesting but different approach to the story for the first half until all hell breaks lose later. A great score and some flashbacks to the other films of Michael and Laurie all lead up to an awesome fight. I will say though that for me it was not as scary maybe because I don’t jump as much any more but I will say this story did get me twice but not in the expected scenes. So, there is horror, thrills, blood, gore, mystery and darkness that all lead up to revenge but by more than one character.

Curtis is awesome even better in this one than the some of the other films. Matichak looks great but also is one really good actress. Officer Hawkins and Lindsey Wallace characters are in the film and Patton and Richards are great supports to the story but it is Cunningham who steals many of the scenes as he comes across brilliant in his moments on the big screen. A number of supporting characters that help add to the carnage and Halloween Ends is superb, but does evil really end. I guess we have to wait and see!
