In this movie set in a park near a big city, animals are trying to store food for the upcoming winter in a large tree. Raccoon (voiced by Liam Neeson) who is the leader, says there is not enough food to make it through the winter. He sends two of the top squirrels, Andie (voiced by Katherine Heigl) and Grayson (voiced by Brendan Frazer) to find some food for everyone. They run into Surly (voiced by Will Arnett) a squirrel that is only out for himself and Buddy, his rat sidekick. They fight over a nut cart which eventually gets away from them and causes the big tree in the park to go up in flames destroying all the food the animals had stored. All of the animals blame Surly and he is banished from the park. He is sent away to fend for himself in the city. His friend Buddy follows him. He must try to find food in unfamiliar surroundings. They happen upon a nut store which is occupied by bank thieves who are planning a heist at the bank across the street. Surly and Buddy can’t get the nuts out of the store because the thieves own a dog named Precious (voiced by Maya Rudolph) who keeps barking and chasing them. Eventually the dog becomes a part of the squirrels’ nut heist after a bout with a dog whistle. Andie runs into Surly while out looking for food for the park and convinces Surly to split the nuts 50/50 between him and the park. Little do they know that Raccoon plans to sabotage the plan so he can control all the food, thus controlling all the park animals. Surly, Andy and a host of other animal friends from the park go to great lengths to dig a tunnel under the nut store. In the end, they are successful after many hilarious escapades. The movie is about friendship and trust and in the end, Surly is a better friend to the park animals than anyone could have imagined, proving that not all heroes demand all the glory. This is a funny yet dramatic movie. A must-see for the whole family. Written and enjoyed by 8 year old Haley Enright.
