Bash Dibra is a big, ebullient man with a warm smile, a gentle manner, and a lifelong affinity for dogs. When he was only three years old and fled with his family from Albania to a refugee camp in Yugoslavia, he made friends with the attack dogs that guarded the compound. Later, as the family traveled through Europe, Bash was able to work with master dog trainers, and he continued his work when he came to the United States. Then came the opportunity to raise and train a wolf, and through this experience Bash developed his unique methods of dog training. As author of two best-selling books on responsible pet ownership, training and the proper treatment of animals in the entertainment industry, Bash Dibra sets the industry standard of service to celebrities and their pets as well as to pets who are celebrities in their own right. New York, NY - The AKC Museum of the Dog is excited to announce “Virtual Night with the Museum,” a livestream virtual gala honoring the Museum’s longtime friend, supporter and board member Ronald H. Menaker on Friday, February 12 between 8pm -9pm.

For almost three decades, the Theatre Benefit for the Museum has been Menaker’s passion project and the Museum hopes to continue the tradition virtually with a night of celebrating and showcasing our love of dogs and the Museum’s impact on the community.

Mr. Menaker first served on the AKC Board from 1996 to 1998. Elected again in 2000, he became Vice Chairman in 2001 and served as Chairman since March 2002 until April 2019. He has been actively involved in the sport of purebred dogs for more than 40 years and has contributed to it greatly through his work with fundraising, particularly hosting the annual Theater Benefit.

The Theater Benefit has fundraised thousands of dollars for AKC affiliates such as the Humane Fund and now more recently, the AKC Museum of the Dog. In addition to hosting the Theater Benefit, Ron has also donated several pieces of artwork to the Museum, including At the Garden Gate by Matilda Lotz, Portrait of Bea Godsol by John Dwight and The Intruder by Arthur Wardle.

Open to the general public, the virtual gala will include remarks from Museum Executive Director Alan Fausel, testimonials from community members on the Museum’s impact and a silent auction. Individuals also can become an Event Sponsor. With a gift of $1,000 or more, participants can become a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum Level Sponsor. Sponsors at levels Silver and above will receive a medallion on our Capital Campaign Wall. Supporters at all sponsor levels will receive recognition on the MOD Donor Wall in the Museum, in pre- and post- show content, and a dedicated space on our giving center within the sponsor level and mentions throughout the live event.

In addition to sponsorship, guests will also be able to bid in a live auction during the event for a chance to take home fabulous prizes in support of the Museum. Those who prefer to give directly can do so through the Museumofthedog.org website on the Night with the Museum Fundraising page.

Parent club members are encouraged to participate in the livestream event through Champions for Our Cause, a competition open to AKC clubs encouraging giving together as a team. The highest total amongst club teams will earn recognition on our AKC Clubs Wall of Fame. This dedicated space in the Museum will feature a plaque with the club’s name on it, to honor the club’s legacy and lasting support of the Museum.

RETIRED HISTORY TEACHER TO MAKE HISTORY WHEN SHE SELECTS BEST IN SHOW AT THE 145th ANNUAL WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB DOG SHOW Accomplished Owner/Breeder/Handler to Judge at America’s Dog Show New York, NY — Mrs. Patricia Craige Trotter of Carmel, California, will judge Best in Show at the 145th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in February 2021. Mrs. Trotter brings extensive experience as an exhibitor and all-breed judge to the most prestigious judging assignment in the sport of purebred dogs. She piloted her Vin-Melca Norwegian Elkhounds to an unprecedented 11 Westminster Hound Group wins. Anchoring Westminster Week this iconic annual dog show has been held continuously in New York City since 1877. Mrs. Trotter registered her first litter of Vin-Melca Norwegian Elkhounds in 1951 and her most recent litter in 2020. All her breeding stock descends from her original bitch acquired in 1949 from an expert bear hunter. Her breeding program produced the top sire and dam in the breed’s history as well as the breed’s top winners, including Ch. Vin-Melca's Vagabond who became top dog all breeds in 1970. Mrs. Trotter also handled top ten all-breed dogs on 10 different occasions while teaching eighth grade U.S. history in Carmel, CA. In addition, 42 Vin-Melca Norwegian Elkhounds have won all-breed best in show honors to date. Mrs. Trotter achieved more recognition for her role in the fancy with the Gaines Girl Show Dog Fancier award in 1952, the AKC Hound Breeder of the Year award in 2004, and the AKC Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 as well as the Anne Rogers Clark Purina Pro Plan Hall of Fame award. She retired from teaching when she married Charles Trotter of Nashville, Tennessee in 1994 and joined him in judging dogs across the country. As a judge, Mrs. Trotter believes the true purpose of the dog show is to select breeding stock. By working in concert with each other, she believes breeders and judges can continually improve all breeds. Mrs. Trotter is approved to judge all breeds, groups, and best in show. She judged the 2009 and 2019 Hound groups. This will be her fifth judging assignment at Westminster. Seven Group Judges will select their picks for the Best in Show competition over two nights at Madison Square Garden. On Monday, Feb. 15, 2021 the following judges will select the group winners to advance to the Best in Show competition. Mr. Jamie Hubbard of Bloomington, Indiana, for the Hound Group; Mrs. June A. Penta of Greensburg, Pennsylvania for the Toy Group; Dr. John A. Reeve-Newson of Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the Non-Sporting Group; and Mr. William P. Shelton of Pomona, California for the Herding Group. On Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 the following judges will select the remaining three group winners to advance to Best in Show.
