ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Shannon Bex is the Chief Communications Officer of Vooks, which she co-founded with her brother, Marshall Bex IV, and Russell Hirtzel. Armed with extensive knowledge of the music industry, marketing, branding and contracts, Bex is a dedicated team player whose unique expertise is a perfect complement to Marshall’s keen sense for storytelling.
Before joining Vooks, Bex served as Label President of Double Platinum Inc., where she was responsible for overseeing the brand’s websites, social media platforms, imaging, and photo shoots; reviewing licensing deals and contracts for increased business opportunities; tracking budget and spending; planning national tours; creating performance sets; and managing team travel accommodations, among others. During this time, she also worked as Project Manager and Brand Developer for Mode Adjust, a creative agency founded by Marshall, managing projects, producing shoots, developing pitches, and collaborating with clients to bring their visions to life.
In addition to being a savvy executive with a wealth of experience and strong business acumen, Bex is a multi-platinum recording artist and former member of the Billboard chart-topping group Danity Kane, which she performed with after being handpicked for the group as a contestant on Season 3 of MTV’s “Making The Band.” Under the guidance of mogul and mentor Sean “Diddy” Combs, Bex gained hands-on experience in the business side of the music industry, reviewing licensing deals and contracts, completing PR training through Atlantic Records and managing brand development, while touring, performing, and recording with Danity Kane. Her other entertainment credentials include performing as one-half of the acclaimed indie duo Dumblonde, whose work was recognized by the legendary Rolling Stone Magazine; and finishing as the top female finalist on NBC’s music competition series “Fame.”
Since 2019, Bex has served as an official member on the Forbes Communications Council, lending the group her invaluable insight from more than two decades in the industry as a panel expert.

After High School, Shannon followed her dreams of becoming a performer. She went on to become a nationally acclaimed performing artist as a singer, dancer, choreographer and a multi-platinum recording artist. Shannon left the entertainment industry to co-found Vooks with her brother, Marshall and friend Russell Hirtzel. Shannon took her experiences from the music industry and uses all that she has learned to help with the success of Vooks. As Chief Communications Officer, Shannon creates, develops, and maintains relationships with authors, illustrators and publishers. Shannon believes in bringing the love of reading to children at a young age!
