From the humans at BarkPost comes the first official BarkBook, DOGS AND THEIR PEOPLE: Photos and Stories of Life with a Four-Legged Love, which Putnam is excited to publish on October 18, 2016. A collection of community-sourced and never-before-told anecdotes, stories, photos, and intimate insights, DOGS AND THEIR PEOPLE captures the depth, spirit, and power of the extraordinary bond between humans and their pups and spotlights more than two hundred unique and remarkable dogs. Some are celebri-dogs (oh hello, Tuna Melts My Heart and Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund) while others are just making their debut; some will make your heart ache while others will make it soar; and others simply look dapper in color.
But this book isn’t just about the dogs; it’s about celebrating the crazy, consuming, unconditional love we feel for them. It’s about the songs you’ve made up for them, the hugs you’ve given them on bad days, and all the outfits that—let’s be honest—you forced them into. It’s about the lightness they’ve brought to our lives just by being there—and having smushy faces. We hear you, dog people; this one is for you.
BarkPost is the mastiff-sized media outlet for all things dog. By creating original (and heart-warming, and goofy) content for dog people, BarkPost helps dogs share their stories with the world using the power of humans. BarkPost is part of Bark & Co, the New York-based startup dedicated to making dogs and their people happy. Since launching in 2012 with BarkBox, a monthly box of funny toys, treats and chews that you can’t find together anywhere else, the dog-obsessed humans at Bark & Co have shipped more than 25 million products to date. The company has since expanded in recent years with a goal of getting the backs of dog parents for everything - creating its own products, experiences and entertainment with BarkShop, BarkLive, and BarkPost.
Stacie Grissom and Morgane Chang from BarkPost and select contributors from the book are available for media interviews. Please contact Katie McKee at Putnam for more information.

The overriding message? Learning shouldn’t be scary. It can be edutainment! Dogs look to us to teach, not bully them. It’s more than okay to love a dog like a child and view yourself as their parent—I do—everyone should! I’m excited to find another voice that inspires love, consideration, and respect for pets and their people."—Dr. Marty Becker, "America's Veterinarian", New York Times bestselling author, and syndicated pet columnist
Sarah Hodgson is an accredited dog trainer with close to 30 years of experience who is well known for the “For Dummies” books on training. In the vein of The Art of Raising a Puppy, she offers tips on everyday training topics, from choosing the right dog for your lifestyle to living with the pooch day by day. Sarah Hodgson rejects dominance-based training and gets astonishing results with a blend of wit, compassion, energy and proven skills. She communicates instructions clearly, directs behavior compassionately, and rewards success lavishly. Her students—both two- and four-legged—feel valued, confident, connected, and smart. She’s the dog mommy everyone wishes they had.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Brilliant(!) New Book on Puppy Socialization Written by Caryl Wolff
The buzzword today in dog training is Puppy Socialization – acquainting puppies to the “real world” before they are 16 weeks old through positive associations. Puppy owners have previously been told to wait until puppy shots were completed before taking them outside – which is equivalent to keeping a child housebound until he is 12 years old! Veterinary behaviorists now emphasize that the more positive exposure a puppy has before vaccines are completed, the more balanced and behaviorally fit the puppy will ultimately be as an adult dog – that first 16 weeks is critical.
With contributions from top dog experts, this book is endorsed by trainers, owners, and veterinarians, this book gives tips to breeders, owners, and rescue groups on how to socialize puppies safely and effectively.
“Puppy Socialization – An Insider’s Guide to Dog Behavioral Fitness”
Dispels many untruths and myths about socialization Bases its recommendations on scientific evidence Offers hundreds of tips and suggestions for breeders, owners/guardians, rescue groups, and trainers on how to properly socialize puppies
“I wrote this book,” says Wolff, “so more dogs will be behaviorally fit and have good doggie manners as adults so that fewer dogs will be relinquished to shelters for behavior issues, many of which would never even appear if they had been properly socialized as puppies.”
About the Author
Author and dog trainer/behavior consultant Caryl Wolff is the first dog trainer to be certified by five dog trainer organizations. She has written seven books about dog training and behavior. She lives in Los Angeles with her two adopted dogs and a 42-year-old blue-and-gold macaw, which she has had since he was a fledgling – she confirms that he is her longest relationship….
Bash Dibra is a big, ebullient man with a warm smile, a gentle manner, and a lifelong affinity for dogs. When he was only three years old and fled with his family from Albania to a refugee camp in Yugoslavia, he made friends with the attack dogs that guarded the compound. Later, as the family traveled through Europe, Bash was able to work with master dog trainers, and he continued his work when he came to the United States. Then came the opportunity to raise and train a wolf, and through this experience Bash developed his unique methods of dog training.
As author of six best-selling books on responsible pet ownership, training and the proper treatment of animals in the entertainment industry, Bash Dibra sets the industry standard of service to celebrities and their pets as well as to pets who are celebrities in their own right. Mr. Dibra has trained the pets of countless celebrities, including Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathleen Turner, Mariah Carey, Joan Rivers, Kim Bassinger and Alec Baldwin. His own pets are celebrities themselves, featured in motion pictures, television commercials and print ads.
Bash has appeared on countless TV shows promoting responsible pet ownership, and he works diligently behind the scenes for animal welfare and to promote animals in service to mankind. Bash credits his incredible way with dogs to his beloved wolf, Mariah, who taught him so much, and who was the official symbol of the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.
"Celebrity Pet Trainer Bash dubbed the" Pet Laureate of our Times."
From coast to coast, from celebrities to casting directors, from in front of the camera to behind the scenes, the "movers and shakers" in the industry know to contact BASH DIBRA, author, pet expert and celebrity trainer-to-the-stars, who is fast becoming the "PET LAUREATE OF OUR TIMES!" proclaims the prestigious Yearbook of Experts, the in-house industry "Bible" of the media.
Bash is an animal behaviorist, author of 6 best-selling books and a video on responsible pet ownership, training and the proper treatment of animals in both the pet and entertainment industry, and the soon-to-be-published "STARPET: How to Make Your Pet A Star." He sets the industry standard of service to celebrities and their pets, as well as any pet owner who comes to him for help.
Bash has appeared on numerous TV shows such as Inside Edition, The Tonight Show, Good Morning America, The Today Show, The Early Show and CNN, promoting responsible pet ownership. At the age of three, Bash and his parents fled from their native country of Albania to Yugoslavia. They ended up in a refugee camp where Bash had his first introduction to the forerunner of dogs, the wolf. Used to guard the prisoners and supposedly frighten them, Bash soon out-foxed the wolves and had them eating out of his hands much to the chagrin of the prison guards. From that time on Bash knew what his life career would be working with animals.
Bashs own pets are celebrities in their own right, having been featured in motion pictures, tv commercials and ads.

Charlotte Reed is a popular pet expert that routinely brightens up television screens, graces radio waves, appears on best selling authors' lists and can be found lecturing at sold-out seminars.
As the fore-most expert on everything pet related, Reed counts her unique entrance into the pet industry as a source for her excitement, knowledge and dedication. Feeling a bit under the weather one afternoon, Reed decided to cut her day short working as a securities attorney at a Wall Street firm. Upon returning to her apartment, Reed was surprised to find her friendly, male dog walker…wearing an expensive gown and voguing (highly stylized modern dance characterized by photo model-like poses integrated with angular, linear and rigid arm, leg, and body movement) in a full-length mirror as her dogs watched the dance performance for the loft above. It was right then that Reed decided that the care of her Katie and Kidder, two American Cocker Spaniels, was only to be trusted to a genuine pet professional, not a male, Madonna wannabe. After not being able to find one, Reed left her job on Wall Street and founded the ultimate pet care firm, Two Dogs & A Goat Incorporated.
Reed’s story did not end there but has been chronicled in pages of New York Magazine, Smart Money and others. Her story has grown to become an New York City legend. A few years ago, Reed was attending a lavish party at the Gramercy Park Hotel when a well-known agent launched into a crowd pleasing story. Unbeknownst to him it was about Reed’s run-in with the dancing dog walker. Reed promptly offered up a few corrections of the story, shocking both the agent and his entertained audience. When asked how she knew the details, she responded that she was the story’s canine champion. Hence, the laughter never stopped; but, neither has Reed’s pet-friendly career nor has she failed to hear her story told again and again.
From the day of the incident, Reed has advised, suggested and advocated on behalf of pets and their people. Whether it was an famous songstress wanting her Maltipoo styled for a woman’s magazine photo shoot; an owner of a lost pet seeking advice how to find his dog; an award-winning pianist needing expert training tips for his three Labradors; a favorite, court house waitress desiring a solution her cat’s constant scratching; or even, a global pr firm requiring help understanding pet consumer behavior, Reed continues to provide the solution-oriented and cost-effective answers to lead happier and healthier pet lifestyles.
