I am the founder and president of Operation Blankets of Love (OBOL), an animal welfare advocacy non-profit started in 2009. Our life-saving mission is to eliminate animal homelessness. While working toward that goal we strive to improve the lives of homeless animals while increasing their chances for adoption. We do this by providing comfort items to shelters, rescues, sanctuaries which improves the conditions found in most rescue organizations so that stray, sick, abused and neglected animals can find a measure of comfort while in the confines of cages and the like.
We also advocate animal welfare and shelter reform through service-oriented humane education, public awareness campaigns and policy work. We organize and participate in hundreds of pet adoption events while promoting “adoption is the best option.”
To my knowledge, Operation Blankets of Love is the only non-profit in the country that provides aid and comfort of this nature. And we provide it to more than 1,000 stray, sick, abused and neglected homeless animals every month in over 35 shelters and hundreds of rescue groups, farm and wildlife sanctuaries, or an estimated 24,000 animals annually.
We provide items for dogs, cats, rabbits, pot-bellied pigs, horses, and other farm animals and wildlife such as wolves, donkeys.
We collect and distribute recycled or new blankets, comforters, towels, pet beds, toys, food, treats, first aid and grooming supplies, leashes, harnesses, collars, dog igloos, cat trees and any other pet-related items. Studies show, and experts agree, that shelter animals with blankets and comfort items feel safer and more secure, happier, warm and comfortable—all of which increases their chances of being adopted.
To date, we collected over 1,000,000 items valued at over $3 million with 72 drop off locations.
Our unique, signature program engages 70+ businesses as drop-off locations covering 10 California Counties from Kern to San Diego. We also transport comfort care items for animals out-of-state and in Canada and Mexico.
