Bash Dibra is a big, ebullient man with a warm smile, a gentle manner, and a lifelong affinity for dogs. When he was only three years old and fled with his family from Albania to a refugee camp in Yugoslavia, he made friends with the attack dogs that guarded the compound. Later, as the family traveled through Europe, Bash was able to work with master dog trainers, and he continued his work when he came to the United States. Then came the opportunity to raise and train a wolf, and through this experience Bash developed his unique methods of dog training.

As author of six best-selling books on responsible pet ownership, training and the proper treatment of animals in the entertainment industry, Bash Dibra sets the industry standard of service to celebrities and their pets as well as to pets who are celebrities in their own right. Mr. Dibra has trained the pets of countless celebrities, including Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathleen Turner, Mariah Carey, Joan Rivers, Kim Bassinger and Alec Baldwin. His own pets are celebrities themselves, featured in motion pictures, television commercials and print ads.

Bash has appeared on countless TV shows promoting responsible pet ownership, and he works diligently behind the scenes for animal welfare and to promote animals in service to mankind. Bash credits his incredible way with dogs to his beloved wolf, Mariah, who taught him so much, and who was the official symbol of the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.

Dog Friendly hotels NYC – Hotel Pennsylvania: One of the biggest pet friendly hotels in NYC!

pet friendly hotels nyc One of the top dog friendly hotels in NYC. If you don’t travel with just the humans in your family, we’re the hotel for you. We love to welcome our furry friends and your pawed family members into our hotel. We don’t care if you have a Yorkie or an English Mastiff, we accept your family how you are. That’s right.

At just $25 per stay (plus tax), we’re not just pet-friendly; we’re wallet friendly.

All sized dogs are welcome at Hotel Pennsylvania.

As a hotel that proudly sponsors the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show every year, it wouldn’t be right to discriminate on any dog simply based on breed or size. We love all dogs and we wouldn’t want any of them banned from our premises. As it is often said, dogs aren’t our whole lives but, they do make our lives whole. So, if you’re traveling with a dog, know that you can stay with us. We’re one of the top dog-friendly hotels in NYC, just ask our four-legged fans.

If you do bring your pet to stay with us, don’t forget to share some pictures with the hashtag #HotelPennPets. We’re making a collage.

When you bring your pet with you, make sure to prepare properly. Our policy does dictate the following.

  • All pets must be kennelled when you’re not in the room.
  • Guests are responsible for any damage done by their pet.

Did we mention? We’re also a cat-friendly hotel.

The same rules that apply to our canine friends apply to our feline friends as well. We watched Homeward Bound and know that the two can live harmoniously and create some amazing adventures. That being said, DO NOT release any of them into our hallways.

If you want to take your pet for a walk, Hotel Penn is nearby the Hudson River Greenway, Bryant Park, and Madison Square Park.

Emmy Award-Winning Journalist & Host Maria Menounos and Her Dog Whinnie Team up to Encourage Dog Owners to Join Purina’s #DogThanking Movement.

MARIA MENOUNOS, Emmy Award-winning journalist and host of Apple Podcast “Conversations with Maria”

BACKGROUND:

In celebration of the National Dog Show Presented by Purina and the Thanksgiving holiday, Purina invites dog lovers across the nation to share why they are thankful for their pet, using #DogThanking and tagging @Purina. This November, Purina wants to recognize the four-legged friends who make our lives so special, especially those pets that act as service animals to veterans across the country.

From November 9-25, for every unique post shared on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that includes @Purina and #DogThanking, Purina will donate $1 (up to $25,000) to Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation’s Pets and Vets program. This amazing program helps pair shelter pets with veterans coping with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, anxiety, and other service-related challenges as they transition back to civilian life following their service. Additionally, through Veterans Day, the Purina Dog Chow Service Dog Salute campaign is also paying tribute to our armed forces and the loyal dogs that serve them by sharing their stories and donating up to $500,000.

The National Dog Show will premiere on Thanksgiving Day on NBC at noon in all time zones. In its 17th year, the show celebrates man’s best friend and continues an established family holiday tradition. The show will crown one of America’s great dogs as its 2018 champion, bringing canine competition and entertainment to more than 20 million viewers. More than 2,000 dogs representing more than 175 breeds will vie for Best in Show honors. Beloved TV personality John O’Hurley, best known as “J. Peterman” on Seinfeld, will serve as show co-host, along with veteran dog show analyst David Frei. NBC sports commentator Mary Carillo will also be participating as a National Dog Show correspondent.

For more information about this year’s #DogThanking initiative, check out Purina on Facebook (www.facebook.com/Purina), Twitter (www.twitter.com/Purina) or Instagram (www.instagram.com/purina).

Growing up, the only pets I was allowed to have were fish. It’s hard to grow attached to those.
Rottweiler puppy, Woodrow, on Lorraine’s lap.
Many years later, I was visiting friends. They had just gotten a Rottweiler puppy from the people at the bottom of the hill, and she sure was cute!! After hearing me say so, our friends took us to visit the puppies. It wasn’t my intention to get a dog. I had never even considered owning a dog. Yet when I sat down to play with the puppies, one leaped into my lap and chose me. Repeatedly, he returned to my lap, even when he was put with the other puppies. And so, Woodrow was mine. And I was his.

With Woody at my side, I learned so much about life and dogs. I learned…
  • If you treat dogs like family, they believe they are.
  • Dogs are good judges of character. Their reactions to strangers at the door should be taken seriously.
  • Stereotypes don’t necessarily apply. Rottweilers are only mean dogs if you raise them to be mean dogs. But not Woodrow; he loved the mailman, the vet, kids, and dressing up for Halloween!
  • Dogs teach us life-changing lessons: the meaning of unconditional love, how to greet someone with enthusiasm, and how to enjoy simple pleasures such as the sights, sounds, and relaxation that can be found in the back yard or a walk down the street.
Woodrow plays with the kids.
At about age 10, Woodrow began taking Glucosamine for the start of canine hip dysplasia and canine arthritis.  As he became a senior dog – at about age 14, that was no longer enough. Inside the house, Woody began to have difficulty standing and walking. It tore at my heart that “my puppy” (I called him that even on his last day, and he believed it) struggled to stand up or walk on the hardwood and tile in our home. I was consumed by the need to find a traction aid for him. I checked the pet stores, asked our vet, and searched the web. With no viable solutions available anywhere, I did what I had to do…I invented Power Paws! They gave Woody the ability to stand without any struggle, and to go where he wanted when he wanted. That is quality of life!!

In honor of my puppy, I present Woodrow Wear. This business is his legacy, and is absolutely dedicated to the millions of older dogs that have traction and mobility issues, and to their owners, who like me, are unable to just sit there and watch them struggle!

Woodrow Wear is also dedicated to the younger dogs who may also find traction useful, to the dog owners who want to protect their hardwood floors from scratches, and to the fashion-conscious owners who want their dogs to be suitably dressed in attractive, cute, and fun socks.  It’s for the dogs with nerve, spine, and ligament issues, whose need for traction can happen at any age.  Surprisingly, it’s also for the dogs with allergies, and the dogs living in areas of extreme heat or cold — Power Paws give them the ability to go out into the dust and pollen with little reaction, or into the snow without ice/salt issues, and into the heat without burning their pads. Power Paws Reinforced Foot, our newest and most durable solution, protects the whole foot even more than our other products for rugged use and on abrasive surfaces.

Always driven to help more dogs, we have become known as “A Company of Firsts”. We are the first to offer:
  • 13 total sizes
  • 2 distinct foot shapes
  • a reinforced toe product (Power Paws Advanced)
  • a reinforced whole foot product (Power Paws Reinforced Foot)
  • a non-drug allergy solution
  • a stretchable, breathable, comfortable product that dogs don’t mind wearing
Woodrow and I promise to never stop looking for the next way to add quality and comfort to your pet’s life.  We’ll invent new products and partner with others when that makes sense.  I promise to continue taking your feedback and suggestions, and to keep you posted on our activities. I encourage you to check back often for updates.  If you sign up for the newsletter, you’ll be among the first to know what’s new, get our special promo offers, etc.  For faster updates and even more special offers, like us on Facebook or Twitter!

I loved Woodrow more than I ever thought a person could love a pet. I shared a bond with him that I hope this page and the “Who’s Woodrow” page expresses. Welcome to our world!
– Lorraine

Praise for Mark Winik's Debut Novel The Dog Healers

FINALLY! A truly powerful heroine. Mark Winik’s debut novel is the suspense packed story of a fierce young healer named Isabella who can breathe life into ailing dogs and turn race horses into champions.

In the tradition of Eva Peron, she ignores her Argentinian culture's ideas about female roles, plunging into the shadowy reaches of the horse racing world where thugs would turn her gift into riches. To her, money is just the means to her dream: creating a haven for all dogs, be they wretched, ill or aggressive. Isabella wields wit and charisma among society ladies, twisting gold-braceleted arms for donations, exerting a still greater spell on men.

This includes her handsome protégé Carlos, who yearns for the love Isabella shares with her dogs. But her dogs are her allies as villainous threats mount. Isabella faces the fight of her life, but when you've got dogs at your back, you're never alone.

Mark Winik is an entrepreneur and an internationally recognized, award-winning author of The Dog Healers. His inspiration for the story struck him on a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina with his wife Norma where he met a dog handler named Carlos.

Carlos taught him an Ancient Tibetan technique on his dogs called Kum Nye. This gift of healing so captivated Mark that he knew he had to write about his experience and share it with others. Since its publish, The Dog Healers was awarded 2017 Pet Novel of the Year at The New York Pet Fashion Show and has received praise from Hampton Pet’s Publisher Gregg Oehler, NYC Mayor’s Alliance for Animals, Pet Philanthropy Circle and appeared in the summer reads “Editors Picks” in New Haven Magazine.

Mark has been interviewed by Pet Life Radio’s Animal Writes with Tim Link, DogCast Radio and Top Dog Tips. Mark is also the conceptual artist for his collection of The Dog Healers cartoons in collaboration with his illustrator, Ivan Camilli, and is also working on a documentary related to the book that aims to share the stories of individuals who have overcome significant trauma or life difficulties with the support of their therapy dog. The Dog Healers Facebook page currently entertains more than 30,000 followers.

Historic “Yes on 13” Campaign Launched to End Dog Racing
Constitutional Amendment to Phase Out Greyhound Racing by 2020 Will Appear on November Ballot
TAMPA—Humane advocates will launch an historic campaign to phase out greyhound racing in Florida this morning, with a press conference at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. State Senator Dana Young, a steadfast advocate of greyhound protection issues in the legislature, will announce the campaign along with Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan, campaign volunteers, and rescued greyhounds.
“Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane,” said Protect Dogs – Yes on 13 Co-Chair Kate MacFall. “Thousands of dogs endure lives of confinement and substandard treatment at Florida dog tracks, and every three days a greyhound dies.”
Following the kick off, the campaign will hold thirteen grassroots meetings across the state. Protect Dogs – Yes on 13 recently launched a digital campaign to inform voters about the cruelty of greyhound racing. The campaign will communicate to voters directly via a dedicated website, Facebook page, Twitter feed and Instagram account.
“This will be a true grassroots campaign,” said Protect Dogs – Yes on 13 Co-Chair Joyce Carta. “We are confident that when Floridians see the way greyhounds suffer in this industry, they will vote Yes for the dogs.”
The campaign has chosen to make this historic announcement at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, one of the leading animal welfare organizations in the state.
“We are proud to host this historic announcement,” said Sherry Silk, Chief Executive Officer of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. “Dogs play such an important role in our lives, we consider them family, and they deserve to be protected.”
Serious animal welfare concerns have been documented at Florida dog tracks. Thousands of greyhounds endure lives of confinement at these facilities, kept in warehouse-style kennels in rows of stacked cages for 20 to 23 hours per day. Also, according to state records, 458 greyhound deaths have been reported at Florida dog tracks since 2013.
Commercial greyhound racing is illegal in 40 states, and two-thirds of all remaining dog tracks nationwide are in Florida.
About the Protect Dogs – Yes on 13 campaign
Protect Dogs – Yes on 13 is a grassroots campaign working to end the cruelty of greyhound racing in Florida. Protect Dogs – Yes on 13 is being sponsored by greyhound protection group GREY2K USA and the Humane Society of the United States.
