THE ROAR FOUNDATION SHAMBALA PRESERVE

The Roar Foundation, which I founded as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1983, exists solely to support The Shambala Preserve. Our mission is to educate the public about the dangers of private ownership of exotic animals. Huge numbers of exotic dangerous animals are bred and sold in the United States for illegal purposes. Private ownership presents a grave danger to the public and is cruel and unfair to these animals. More stringent legislation is needed to prohibit breeding and selling. We are actively involved in legislating this on federal and state levels.

Prior to 1983 I had been rescuing the exotic felines since 1972. Up to the present, The Shambala Preserve has given sanctuary to over 235 exotic felines - lion, tiger, cougar, black and spotted leopard, serval, bobcat, Asian leopard cat, snow leopard, cheetah, lynx, tigon, liger and African elephant. All have come to the Preserve after confiscation by authorities, such as California Fish and Game, U.S. Department of Agriculture, SPCA and Humane Societies. They are from roadside zoos and private citizens who realize they have purchased an animal they can no longer handle.

The exotic cat trade is a huge business. According to US. Fish and Wildlife it is on a par with illegal drugs. Once an animal is brought to Shambala, it remains here for the remainder of its life. As a true sanctuary, we do not buy, breed, sell, trade, or subject them to commercial use. Our only purpose is to allow these magnificent animals to live out their lives with care, understanding and dignity. Each has the best human, nutritional, medical, emotional and mental care possible.

There are many ways you can support The Roar Foundation: become a Member of the Roar Foundation, Adopt a Wild One, provide an item from the Shambala Wish List; attend a Safari Tour: visit The Trading Post, become a volunteer, attend one of our hugely popular and unique Sunset Safaris, and for a truly memorable experience, spend an entire night in one of Shambala’s authentic African Tents! All of these help to further Shambala’s educational efforts and support our mission. One special weekend a month, we hold the Safaris where Shambala opens the gates to the public for a small admission fee (by reservation only). All guests must be 18-yrs or older. Please come visit us and support our beautiful Wild Ones.

Shambala is a Sanskrit word that means: “A Meeting Place of Peace and Harmony for all Beings, Animal and Human.”

Shambala is home to over 40 big cats: lions, tigers, cougars, black and spotted leopards, servals, bobcats, and Asian leopard cats, who live out their lives at Shambala. All have come to the Preserve after confiscation by authorities such as California Fish and Game, the United States Department of Agriculture, the ASCPA, and various Humane Societies. They are from roadside zoos and private citizens who realize that they have purchased an animal that they can no longer handle. The exotic cat trade is a huge business, just under illegal drugs, according to U.S. Fish and Wildlife.

Tippi Hedren

Hi Everybody!!!!!......TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!!!!.....I AM 88 YEARS OLD!!!!!!......WOO HOO!!!!!

Some of you have asked, "What do you want for your Birthday, Tippi?....Anything special?". I thought for a few minutes and said, "Yes, it would be special, but it's not for me. I've got too much' stuff! At this point in my life, I'm going to be...88!!!!!" Retirement is a four letter word as far as I'm concerned, but, you know what I would really love????....I've been rescuing the Big Cat in captivity since 1973...I have been Founder and President of the ROAR Foundation since 1983 to support The Wild Ones of Shambala. I've been in charge of raising the funds to support these magnificent Big Cats, all born in the U.S. to be sold as a pet or for financial exploitation. This has been an amazing life, one I would not change a single day for any pipe dream life of riches and elegance for anything. I've never taken a salary nor have I been paid on any level from the Roar Foundation.

So, this is why I'm going to ask all of you to   Yes, $88,000.00 for The Roar Foundation to support the magnificent Wild Ones at the Shambala Preserve, in my name! Tippi Hedren...You may donate any amount. You could donate, eight dollars & eighty eight cents, eight hundred eighty dollars, eighty-eight dollars, eighty-eight thousand dollars....In my name!!

I'm very excited about my birthday this year....because it will all be benefiting the most  important animals in my life!!!!!!

To those of you who responded to my last birthday request, I'm so hoping you will remember how successful that program was in benefitting the Magnificent Wild Ones.

A Birthday Present for Tippi
Hi Everybody!!!!!......I'm having a Birthday on January 19, which is in about four days!!!!......So many people have asked me,
"What do you want for your Birthday Tippi? Anything special?" I thought for a few minutes and said, "Yes, I know what I want - and it would be special. But it's not for me.It was such a special idea I thought I'd share it with you. You see, I've got too much 'stuff' at this point in my life, and I'm going to be...86!!!!!......Retirement is a four letter word as far as I'm concerned, but, do you know what I would really love????....I've been rescuing the Big Cat since 1973...I have been Founder and President of the ROAR Foundation since 1983 to support The Wild Ones of Shambala. I've been in charge of raising the funds to support these magnificent Big Cats, all born in the U.S. to be sold as a pet or for financial exploitation. This has been an amazing life, one that I would not change a single day of for any pipe dream life of riches and elegance. I've never taken a salary nor have I been paid on any level from the Roar Foundation.
"IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!"

Last January 9, 2015, I submitted to a 10 hour operation on the vertebrae in my neck. I had seen my MD to stop my constant headaches.  He looked at the MRI and said...."How are you holding up your head???"....I said, "What"? He repeated the question and showed me the evidence of the problem existed in the vertebrae in my neck.  Next minute, I was in the Hospital.....The day after the  operation my truly brilliant Dr. Kavenfar explained it would take a full year before I would be feeling well, and for the anesthesia to leave my body. For 8 to 9 months I would have to wear a Miami neck brace (really attractive) 24/7, yes that means, day and night for at least eight months. After that, it would take another several months for my vertebrae to heal. I still wear the brace at night. Actually it makes me feel secure and safe.

I'm telling you all of this because I'm feeling better. However, this is why you haven't been seeing very much of me the past year. I tried working, several times, but found it exhausting - as much as I didn't want to believe my MD about that long year it would take take for me to feel good again. And I have to remember, I AM beginning the last half of my eighties!!!!!  I keep forgetting that!!!!!

So, this is why I'm going to ask all of you to help me raise $86,000. One thousand dollars for each of my 86 years!!!!! Yes, $86,000 for The Roar Foundation to support the magnificent Wild Ones at the Shambala Preserve, thru the ROAR FOUNDATION in my name...Tippi Hedren!! You could donate any amount, eight dollars, eight hundred dollars, eight thousand dollars, eighty-six thousand dollars....What ever you choose....In my name!! And, we'll put your name on the Birthday Card for Tippi's Birthday Fund!! Just think, you wouldn't have to shop, choose or wrap a present and your gift will be used to keep the magnificent Wild Ones of Shambala in the perfect life to which they have become accustomed, and are so deserving!!!!!

I'm very excited about my birthday this year....because it will all be benefiting the most  important animals in my life!!!!!!

Thank you for reading this and acting upon it....I'm so hoping to see all of you at Shambala this year, over and over again!!!!

With so much love for the Shambala Wild Ones,
