Leo's Story

In 2014, LBWF stepped in to help a fellow rescue, as it closed its doors.  Leo was one of the 9 lucky dogs LBWF took on as our own. He had developed allergies from his past life - his beautiful fawn colored fur was in rough shape and it took months to soothe and heal. He benefited from a grain free diet, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar and the product, Nzymes. After a year of struggling with his skin issues, we found this to be the magic cure for him, and so many rescued dogs we have here at LBWF that suffer from skin issues due to our dry weather.

Leo was adopted as a cute, fat puppy. He was well loved until his owner left for college! Story sound all too familiar nowadays? Unfortunately the student's parents didn't want the responsibility of this now, very large dog, so they gave Leo away. He mysteriously was found in a field and taken in by a loving family who had taken to caring for all dogs dumped in that particular field. The economy crashed, leaving this kindhearted family with no money to feed the family and pets. Leo, now severely underweight, found a safe haven with a loving rescue.

Two years ago, they too fell on hard times and had to close their doors. This is becoming all too common in rescue, as the weight of the expenses of caring for all these left behind pets become unbearable.

LBWF stepped in to help Leo and 9 of his canine friends and 10 cats!  We discovered Leo loved to pass the time playing with his ropes and toys, hoping you might notice his joy, and watch him as he shook it side to side and bounced his hippo body around! He was a great walking companion, but still he scared everyone, with his large hippo body!

We are so excited to announce that this gentle giant has FINALLY found his own forever, loving home! He deserves it. They all do.

Your support & donations to the LBWF rescued dogs allowed Leo, and all the 100 rescued dogs of LBWF, to live and thrive! Now it is his adoption day, April 2016! He has a 3 month old, TINY little Chihuahua sister named Miss Kitty, whom he loves to give kisses too!! We love you Leo! Thank you Grace, Sam and Miss Kitty for bringing Leo into your loving home and giving him the love he as begged for all these years.

Leo is a dog that proves what makes this work so incredible - never give up on them and their loyalty and ability to believe in humans, no matter how many times humans let them down!

Welcome to the world of rescue, we do it for the magical, magnificent friends, called animals. It is us humans, which are lucky to have them in our lives! I call them angels on earth, and feel privileged to serve them in their time of need! We must change laws to better protect them! We must continue to work towards mandatory spay/neuter, harsher penalties for animal cruelty, the end of backyard chaining, breed ban discrimination, and better quality of life for our fur friends.

Your donations go directly to the care of our rescued animals in need. We don't have the overheard the big groups have. We are 100% volunteer run which ensures your funds provide direct medical care, shelter, bedding, toys, grooming, cookies, etc to the 100 rescued dogs at the LBWF Wellness Center.

Your donations also assist us in educating the public on the aforementioned animal welfare topics and ensure we can continue fighting for Leo and all his fur friends we love so dearly.

Thank you for joining the LBWF Family and helping on this journey!

With great love and gratitude,

Linda

Sasha and Hermes Need Your Help!
We need your help!
These two angels, only 6 months old, were going to be put to sleep on March 25, 2016. LBWF jumped in last minute and rescued the siblings from death row!
They were given all their puppy shots at the shelter and were in great health! The shelter is six hours away from LBWF, so the puppies had to go to boarding for three days and wait for transport to us.

We received an alarming phone call, Thursday morning (March 31) stating the male puppy, Hermes, was vomiting and drooling. LBWF feared the worst and we had him rushed to the animal hospital and sadly, he was diagnosed with Parvo.

Parvo is highly contagious and, as such, his sister Sasha has now tested positive as well. These two sweethearts are fighting for their lives. Please make a much needed donation so we can continue round the clock medical care.

Follow their progress on YouCaring or on our Facebook page!

With deep gratitude,
Linda Blair

Dear Jon,

With the holidays upon us, the Linda Blair WorldHeart Foundation would like to wish you much peace and happiness today and always.  There has been an on-going crisis in our country with companion animals being surrendered to the city and state shelters at an alarming rate. We recently stepped into assist Moreno Valley Shelter with several dogs they were rallying for. Below you will see photos of just a few of the sweet faces who have joined the LBWF Rescue and Wellness Center.

Please consider making a holiday gift to our rescued dogs in need whether its an in-kind donation, a financial donation, or doing holiday shopping with our rescue partners who give back. You can find all this information and more throughout the newsletter.

I wish you all a peaceful holiday with your loved ones. With deep gratitude,

Ways to help!

Traveling around the country gives me the unique opportunity to talk to folks all over about our mutual love of animals and the challenges facing our fur friends and families. We have been working hard at rescuing as many animals as possible out of our CA shelters and helping to educate the public on the importance spay/neuter and the implications of pet overpopulation. We encourage you to do the same the same in your communities. If you are unsure of resources, reach out to your local rescue groups - they are a wealth of information and can use your support! We here at LBWF will continue to help our animals in need here in CA as well as providing education across the nation, but we can't do it without your continued support. Please consider making a much needed and much appreciated donation to our LBWF rescued dogs in need. With love and warmth,
Linda Blair
Cool Weather is Heading our Way!

Cool weather is upon us and the winter months will soon be settling in. It's time to prepare people and pets alike for the cold winter weather. Please remember to keep your pets warm and move them indoors during cold temperatures. To protect them from slippery ice, use kitty litter which will allow for traction and keep their delicate paw pads safe from irritation. Don't forget to check in on your senior neighbors and their pets too! Community is everything!
Changes in Animal Abuse Legislation!

Starting in 2016 the FBI will reclassify animal abuse in their reporting system, which means it will be a top tier federal crime. This change will allow them to track and quantify animal abuse case and will hopefully result in stronger punishment and accountability. You can do your part by reporting all signs of abuse or neglect to your local authorities.
National Pit Bull Awareness Month and National Pit Bull Awareness Day Oct. 24th!

This month is national pit bull awareness month and pit bull and pibble lovers around the country are making strides at educating folks about this loveable, snuggly breed! Interestingly enough, one large "animal protection" group has come out speaking against the breed. They have their own horrible, delusional, media seeking agenda. It's unfortunate and won't stand. The Linda Blair WorldHeart Foundation loves all animals and we must all continue to show what an amazing breed this dog really is.

What We Do…

Linda Using the Pet Walker-Plus

LBWF is a unique safe haven for animals providing top-quality, lifelong care to the animals it rescues.

We emphasize proper nutrition, provide first-class veterinary care, comfortable facilities, training, socializing, and of course, an abundance of love.

Using the media as an outlet for education, we hope to raise the level of awareness on important issues such as pet overpopulation and dog fighting, as well as debunking the unfounded, illogical and fear-based arguments that all too often lead to breed-specific bans and the heartbreaking extermination of beautiful animals whose only crime is having been born.

The recent economic recession and financial crisis have resulted in a record number of foreclosures and people aren’t the only ones to suffer in times like these. Homelessness is a harsh reality facing more and more animals, as people heartlessly abandon them or are reluctantly forced to leave them behind at already overcrowded shelters because they can no longer afford to care for them.

Please help us give these loving, loyal and wonderful animals a safe place to live a happy life. There are a variety of ways you can help, from making a tax-deductible cash donation, purchasing something from our CafePress store or bidding on one of Linda’s eBay auction items to volunteering at our facility or becoming a desperately needed foster family for our rescues.

Increasing Our Impact

After 3 long years of searching, the foundation’s journey came full circle with the acquisition of an A2 zoned property in Acton, CA. The property is beautiful and provides a wonderful temporary home to animals that have been through so much.

We’re very proud of how far we’ve come and incredibly thankful for the donations of both money and time from our dedicated supporters, friends and volunteers. Much has been accomplished, but we still have a long way to go!

We are constantly working to construct additional buildings to shelter our rescued animals from high desert winds and cold. We’re also busy installing additional fencing and plumbing, as well as creating new play yards – just to list a few of the ongoing projects that help us meet our animals’ most basic needs.

Always on our shopping list…

  • Wire Crates 42″-48″
  • Chain Link
  • Recycled Plywood
  • Trees for shade and wind protection
  • Dog food
  • Dog Treats
  • Dog Toys
  • Dog Beds
  • Blankets
  • Collars and Leashes
  • Stainless Steel Water and Food Bowls
  • Heavy Duty garbage bags
  • Paper towels

These gift cards can always be put to good use…

  • Home Depot or Lowe’s Gift Cards
  • PetSmart or Petco Gift Cards

Our “wouldn’t it be wonderful” wish list…

  • Cargo Van for transporting animals
  • Energy and Water Efficient Washer (top loading) and Dryer
Looking Into The Future

Ultimately our goal is to build a reliable and smooth-running facility that will allow Linda to focus much of her attention on educating the public about critical issues such as overpopulation, the importance of having pets spayed or neutered, animal abuse, neglect and the plight of woefully misunderstood breeds like American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier – often collectively referred to as “Pit Bulls”.

While our first priority is to provide a loving and safe environment for our rescued animals, fundamentally we hope to have an impact on a much larger and far-reaching scale. Ours is a mission of education that will help people develop the same respect, love and admiration for animals that we have.

Together We CAN Make A Difference!
