Universal City, CA, November 14, 2016—Illumination Entertainment, Universal Pictures and AMC Theatres today announced a Thanksgiving weekend event for audiences of all ages: “Sing Saturday,” a celebration of free screenings of the new event film from Illumination at 200 AMC Theatres nationwide, on November 26. From the creators of Despicable Me, Sing—in which Academy Award® winners Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon lead an all-star cast—arrives nationwide on December 21, 2016.
Tickets for “Sing Saturday” screenings are available on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 200 moviegoers in line at participating AMC Theatres on Saturday, November 26 (10 a.m. local time). Illumination has captivated audiences all over the world with the beloved hits Despicable Me, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, Despicable Me 2 and Minions, now the second-highest-grossing animated movie in history. Following the release of this summer’s comedy blockbuster The Secret Life of Pets, Illumination presents Sing this holiday season.
With its highly relatable characters, heart and humor, the first collaboration between writer/director Garth Jennings (Son of Rambow, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri marks the sixth fully animated feature from the studio.
The event film stars Academy Award® winners Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon, alongside Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Grammy Award-nominated Tori Kelly.
Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (McConaughey), a dapper koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal—some might even say delusional—optimist who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now faced with the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition.
Five lead contestants emerge: Mike (MacFarlane), a mouse who croons as smoothly as he cons; Meena (Kelly), a timid teenage elephant with an enormous case of stage fright; Rosita (Witherspoon), an overtaxed mother run ragged tending a litter of 25 piglets; Johnny (Egerton), a young gangster gorilla looking to break free of his family’s felonies; and Ash (Johansson), a punk-rock porcupine struggling to shed her arrogant boyfriend and go solo.
Each arrives under Buster’s marquee believing that this is their shot to change the course of their life. And as Buster coaches each of his contestants closer and closer to the grand finale, he starts to learn that maybe the theater isn’t the only thing that is in need of saving.
Featuring more than 65 hit songs, Sing is produced by Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy. Together, they have produced all of Illumination’s films since the studio’s inception. Released by Universal Pictures, Sing arrives in theaters on December 21, 2016. www.singmovie.com

Somerset County, NJ — Somerset County is now equipped with a state-of-the-art AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer that will be available to dispatch to any disaster scenes that need assistance sheltering pets.
AKC Pet Disaster Relief, a national program that is dedicated to keeping pets and their owners safe in the aftermath of natural or civil disasters, joined forces with local American Kennel Club dog clubs and dog lovers to present an emergency trailer to officials from the Somerset County Animal Response Team (CART) in a ceremony held yesterday.
The Somerset CART trailer is the 50th AKC Pet Disaster Relief rolled out nationwide and the third to serve New Jersey. AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailers are also located in Morris and Bergen counties.
AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailers help to create a safe, temporary home-base for at least 65 pets immediately after a disaster is declared. The trailers house and deliver essential animal care items including crates and carriers, AKC Reunite microchips and an AKC Reunite universal microchip scanner, bowls, collars and leashes as well as fans, lighting and generators; cleaning supplies and maintenance items. These supplies can be used as co-location shelters, where people can evacuate with their pets, as well as emergency animal shelters for displaced animals.
“This trailer will provide animal care sheltering supplies during the first critical hours after a disaster hits Somerset County or the surrounding areas,” said Tom Sharp, AKC Reunite CEO. “Safe, effective pet sheltering solutions in times of disaster are incredibly important, and AKC Reunite is pleased to help communities across the nation prepare by mobilizing AKC Pet Disaster Relief.”
“We want to help our local community be prepared to help people and their pets for any disaster and its aftermath,” said NJ Federation of Dog Clubs president Jeffrey Ball. “We’re proud to donate this trailer to Somerset CART to assist in their future disaster response efforts.”
The purchase of the trailer was made possible by more than $22,000 in donations and grants from the Morris & Essex Kennel Club, Sussex Hills Kennel Club, the New Jersey Federation of Dog Clubs, the Garden State Golden Retriever Club, the Northern NJ Great Dane Club, the Ridgewood Responsible Pet Ownership Committee, Animerge PC and AKC Reunite, the nation’s largest non-profit pet identification and recovery service.
“Thank you to these AKC dog clubs and AKC Reunite for helping us to obtain such a valuable tool that will allow our agency to ensure the safety of our pets during any future disasters,” said Kenneth Otrimski, Deputy Coordinator Somerset County Emergency Management.
“Our New Jersey dog clubs are dedicated to giving back and helping the pets loved by those in the community. We’re very proud to help bring an AKC Pet Disaster Relief Trailer to Somerset County,” said Wayne Ferguson, president of the Morris & Essex Kennel Club. “It is our hope it will provide meaningful support during difficult times of disaster.”

Following rescue efforts in South Carolina and Georgia, ASPCA responders head to North Carolina to assist animals stranded by massive flooding
Lumberton, N.C.—At the request of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, the ASPCA® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) deployed members of its disaster response team to assist in animal rescue and sheltering needs in Lumberton, N.C., devastated by massive flooding due to Hurricane Matthew. Since last week, the ASPCA has assisted nearly 950 animals through pre-evacuation, field rescue, transport and sheltering needs in Georgia and South Carolina.
“Local officials estimate hundreds of animals may be affected in Lumberton at this point, and we will assist them with sheltering displaced animals in the community and animal rescue requests,” said Tim Rickey, vice president of the ASPCA Field Investigations and Response team. “For many, pets are members of the family, and we will do everything we can and continue to go out into the field to search for lost pets and hopefully reunite them with their owners.”
Forecasters warned that waters were still on the rise in some areas of Robeson County, and the ASPCA anticipates requests for assistance will increase. Nearly 25 deaths have been reported in the U.S. due to the deadly Category 4 storm as it made its way up the East Coast after killing hundreds in Haiti, Cuba and the Bahamas.
The ASPCA Field Investigations and Response team frequently responds to natural disasters including the recent Louisiana flooding and the Northern California wildfire. In addition, they are called on by state and municipal governments and other animal welfare partners to lend expertise during large-scale animal rescue operations.

American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization that for 140 years has been first to serve the interests of animals, was named the Outstanding Animal Welfare Organization of the Year by the Pet Philanthropy Circle at the glittering Pet Hero Awards gala in New York City, hosted by beloved voice of NBC’s National Dog Show David Frei and co-chaired by Georgina Bloomberg and Prince Lorenzo Borghese. Adding to the organization’s notable win, longtime supporter, American Humane board member and country music star Naomi Judd was named Humanitarian of the Year.
“Due to American Humane’s outstanding contributions to animal welfare, the organization has been selected by the Executive Board of the Pet Philanthropy Circle for the Animal Welfare Organization of the Year Award,” said Jewel Morris, noted animal advocate and founding president of Pet Philanthropy Circle. “Your commitment to animal welfare exemplifies the dedication that our Board evaluates worthy of this esteemed award.”
For 140 years, American Humane has been first to serve in the protection of animals in every sphere of life – in our homes and communities, on our farms and ranches, on the silver screen, and in human care at zoos, aquariums and conservation centers. The organization also works to save more of the 6-8 million animals relinquished each year to the nation’s shelters and get them into loving, forever homes. And in just the past dozen years, American Humane saved, sheltered and helped more than 80,000 animals caught in disasters and cruelty cases. The organization positively reaches some 1 billion animals with direct services each year – more than any other in its field.
Country star and American Humane Board Member Naomi Judd Also Honored
Adding to American Humane’s win, the Pet Philanthropy Circle honored the country star and the organization’s longtime supporter and board member as the Humanitarian of the Year. The award recognized her wide-ranging charitable work, including her advocacy for America’s military hero dogs. Ms. Judd worked with American Humane to have Congress change the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), mandating that these four-legged veterans be brought home and retired on U.S. soil and reunited with their former handlers after their service is finished. Congress changed and passed the NDAA, which was then signed into law by the President late last year.
“For nearly a century and a half the staff and volunteers at American Humane have worked to be the first to serve in the protection of animals,” said American Humane President and CEO Dr. Robin Ganzert. “We are deeply honored by this award and thank the remarkable and esteemed members of the Pet Philanthropy Circle board, which includes so many of the nation’s leading animal advocates. On behalf of the one billion animals we serve each year, thank you!”

“Meet the Animal Artist” Experience Added to Oakland Zoo’s Animals Saving Animals Annual Art Auction
Oakland, Calif. -- September 15, 2016 -- Oakland Zoo has added a new twist to the third year of their annual “Animals Saving Animals Art Show” to raise money for animal conservation. Bidding winners get to come to the Zoo to be part of the painting experience with the animal artist.
Zoos across the country now sell animal paintings as a way to fundraise, but Oakland Zoo wanted to enhance the concept by personalizing the experience. “We saw that people bought these artworks to connect with the animals, so we decided to offer an experience where people could meet an animal artist up-close and behind-the-scenes, for the ‘creative’ painting process.’ It’s an amazing way to connect with animals at the Zoo, support animal conservation in the wild – and, of course, acquire unique artwork,” said Erin Harrison, Sr. Manager of Marketing & PR at Oakland Zoo.
Artwork created by zoo animals is up for auction on eBay now through Thursday, September 22 at 11am. Artists featured in the Animal Art Show Experience include an elephant, lemur, goat, sun bear, giraffe, parrot, and green monkey. For a complete list of artist names, biographies and bidding link, and additional information on Oakland Zoo’s Animal Art Show Experience, go to: http://www.oaklandzoo.org/Animal_Art_Show_2016.php
“The Animal Art Show Experience is a triple win; it provides fun enrichment activity for our animals, helps support the conservation of wildlife, and draws public attention to the various conservation challenges that animals face,” said Amy Gotliffe, Conservation Director at Oakland Zoo. “The Animal Art Show is also a perfect example of how the entire Oakland Zoo staff embraces our conservation efforts, from our Marketing Department to our Animal Care team. We hope the lucky winners of this unique art know that they took action for wildlife every time they look at it.”
None of the animals are forced or coerced into participating in the Art Show. The painting sessions are conducted with zookeepers, using only positive-reinforcement methods to encourage voluntary participation. The paint used is non-toxic and water based. All funds raised from the auction will benefit Oakland Zoo’s conservation partners, who are working in the field to save wild animals.
